FAQ
What types of documents can you bind?
We bind diploma, bachelor’s, graduate, doctoral, habilitation, final, and school-leaving theses, as well as any other documents according to your requirements. We offer hardcover binding, thermal binding, and spiral binding.
How long does it take to bind my thesis?
If you already have your covers ordered, we can bind your thesis into the prepared covers while you wait — within 20 minutes (100 CZK per piece). Express binding within 4 hours is available for 50 CZK per piece. If next-day pickup is sufficient, binding is free (included in the price of the covers).
Can I bring my own printed copies?
Yes, no problem. You can order printing online with us at any time, or bring your own printed copies.
Not sure what text to put on the cover?
Our staff will be happy to help you, but school requirements often change (please check your school’s website for the current binding requirements for your thesis).
Do you also offer thermal binding or spiral binding?
Yes, both thermal binding and spiral binding can be ordered online, or we can produce them for you on the spot at our branch. In the online order form, you will find them in step 3 under “other type of binding.”
Should I print single-sided or double-sided?
About 80% of students print single-sided, while 20% choose double-sided printing. This depends on the requirements of your faculty, which you should check in your thesis guidelines. Your supervisor or the study department can also advise you. For double-sided printing, you need to set mirrored margins in your document.
Do you offer gilded lettering in the Technika font for CTU students?
Yes, we print the covers using this font exactly according to the university’s requirements. Cover samples can be found here.
Do I have to pick up my ordered covers on a specific day?
Your selected date is indicative, and your covers will be held for up to 10 days. After that, you must come to pay and collect them. We produce everything exactly according to your requested date (earlier pickup is not possible).
Is it possible to replace pages in an already bound thesis?
Yes, with our covers this is possible. The covers can be reopened using a special device, allowing the pages to be replaced. We perform page replacement on the spot for 100 CZK per binding.
Do you burn CDs/DVDs?
Yes, we offer this service on the spot at all our branches. If you would like to burn not only a PDF but also a Word file onto the CD, please contact us by email. Pricing information can be found here.
I want my school’s logo on the cover.
In the editor, simply tick the option that you want a logo, or include it in the PDF you upload as a sample. We either already have the logos of most universities, or we will obtain them if needed.
What margins should I use for binding?
About 1 cm of paper is hidden in the spine, so it is not necessary to set a 4 cm margin on the binding side. A 3 cm margin is usually sufficient. At the top, bottom, and right side, you can set 2–2.5 cm margins. For double-sided printing, make sure to set mirrored margins.
Can I include an appendix in a bound thesis?
Yes, we produce special covers for appendices (with ties). You can select them during the ordering process.
Is it possible to order only the covers and bring the inside pages for binding?
Yes, you can bring your own printed pages. Binding within the next day is free of charge, while same-day binding while you wait is available for an additional 100 CZK. Binding within 4 hours is available for an additional 50 CZK per piece.
Cover printing style – uppercase or lowercase letters?
If possible, we will be happy to print the cover according to your preferences. Please select this option in your order or attach a PDF in the desired format. Hot foil stamping technology has certain limitations (such as the number of characters in the set and line length). The final layout is therefore determined by the binder. However, you don’t need to worry—we follow all university requirements, so your thesis will always be accepted by your school.
Do you convert documents to PDF?
We convert Word documents to PDF. This format ensures that the document will not be reformatted before printing. For example, you can download the “doPDF” program here: Download doPDF here.
Your text may be reformatted before printing.
Word adjusts page settings based on the connected printer (i.e., the default printer). Since each printer uses a different communication language (PCL, PS, etc.), text reformatting may occur. Before starting your work, set the appropriate printer (e.g. HPLJ4000 or Adobe Acrobat), or use fixed page breaks. This will help prevent unwanted text shifting.
Inserting a table or image
Insert tables and images in a quality that is suitable for printing. Use simpler formats for tables and avoid bright colors, as they will not be clearly visible in print. Always insert high-quality images, not images downloaded from websites. Images published on the internet typically have a resolution of 72 dpi and are intended for on-screen viewing only. They are not suitable for printing.
What type of paper do you print on?
We normally print on 80 g paper, which is fully sufficient for printing and is used by 99% of our customers. For an additional fee, we can print on 90 g or 120 g premium Colotech paper. However, this option cannot be combined online with a spine printing request. The surcharge is 2 CZK per sheet. Please specify your request in the order notes or in person at our branch.
Can I choose the font for the cover?
Unfortunately not. The text on the covers is stamped using metal characters. Each letter is applied individually using pressure, heat, and gold foil, so it is not possible to maintain a specific font or font size. However, you don’t need to worry about your thesis being rejected by your university for this reason. The only exception is CTU in Prague (ČVUT), where we use the Technika font.
Can I reserve a binding time slot?
Unfortunately, this is not possible due to the nature of the service. Customers are handled in the order in which they arrive at the branch. We recommend planning your printing and binding with sufficient time in advance.
What is the difference between a page and a sheet?
A sheet of paper has two sides (front/back or recto/verso). If you print single-sided, 100 pages = 100 sheets. If you print double-sided, 100 pages = 50 sheets. The spine width of the cover depends on the number of sheets that will be bound.
How do I specify in the order which pages I want in color?
Ignore the page numbering generated by Word and always follow the page order in the PDF. In your PDF viewer, check the sequential page number of the specific page and enter that number into the order form. If you have multiple color pages in your order, you can enter their numbers in a row—just separate them with commas.
Do I need to know the exact number of sheets when placing the order?
If you do not require spine printing, the exact number of sheets is not very important and you can enter an approximate range of ±40 sheets in the form. However, if you want the spine to be printed, we need you to provide the final number of sheets as accurately as possible (±2 sheets). This is necessary so the printer can determine the correct spine thickness for the printing.
How should I proceed with a complaint?
We handle all complaints promptly, so you don’t need to worry about long delays. Please email us at podpora@powerprint.cz , include your order number, a brief description of the issue, and ideally attach two to three photos (a mobile phone photo is sufficient). We will contact you immediately with a proposal for the fastest possible solution.
How do I proceed with changing or cancelling an order?
Order cancellation or changes are possible within 30 minutes of placing the order. If you have chosen delivery via PPL or Zásilkovna, please email us at eshop@powerprint.cz . For orders for pickup at a branch, please contact the specific branch directly (see the Contact section).
How do I set black-and-white and color pages?
If you are ordering a combined print (colour + black & white) and some pages intended for black-and-white printing contain colour elements, and you require these pages to be printed strictly in black and white, it is necessary to convert these pages to grayscale before submitting your file. Otherwise, we cannot guarantee or accept complaints regarding colour accuracy. If you do not require strict black-and-white output for these pages, there is no need to convert them to grayscale.
Appendix box and its specifications
If you request printing on both the front cover and the spine, it is not possible to use your own design (PDF), and it is also not possible to produce a new CTU template using the Technika font (only the old CTU template can be used). If you request printing ONLY on the front cover (without spine printing), the cover can be printed according to your own design and specifications.
When will my thesis be bound if I also order printing?
Print reorders placed on the current day (date) will be bound the following day after 14:00 (working days only). For example, a reorder placed on 28 November at 23:00 will be ready on 29 November after 14:00, and a reorder placed on 29 November at 01:00 will be ready on 30 November after 14:00. If you need binding sooner, an additional fee of 100 CZK per binding applies, and it is possible to arrange this individually at the branch.
When will my thesis be bound if I bring my own printed copy, print on site (after covers are prepared), or choose “DO NOT BIND”?
Binding is free of charge and takes at least 1 hour. If you need binding while you wait, an additional fee of 100 CZK per binding applies, and it can be arranged individually at the branch.
